In this article, we’ll walk through the process of managing a floating cloud licence.
Floating cloud licences can be shared among a group of users (or Teams).
Seat Allocation:
- The number of seats in the floating licence pool must be equal to or greater than the number of concurrently active users.
- If all licence seats are occupied, additional users must wait until a seat becomes available.
- Seats in the pool can be reserved for specific users by the Company Administrator or Licence Manager.
- The Company Administrator or Licence Manager can also evict active users from sessions to release seats if necessary.
User Sessions and Device Behaviour:
- If a user opens multiple instances of Micromine Origin or Beyond on the same device, only one seat is used from the licence pool.
- If the same user opens sessions on multiple devices, each device will consume a separate seat from the licence pool.
-
Users can evict their own sessions on other devices if they need to free up a seat for current use.
To manage floating licences: start by inviting new users, then go to the licence, click 'View Access,' and assign the desired permission type (use or manage).
To assign users to a floating licence, please follow these steps:
-
Go to Users and invite the list of users to the Company:
Locate the Invite button in the upper-right corner of the screen and click it
You can either copy and paste a list of email addresses to invite them to the licence, or enter them manually.
Select the appropriate Company Role from the list for this group of users.
If you need to assign different roles to different users, you can either repeat the invitation process with separate groups or update their roles later. For guidance on choosing the correct role, please refer to the article linked below:
Which Role to Assign in Nexus Licence Manager: A Quick Guide
All invited users will receive two email notifications from nexus@micromine.com: a Set Up Password email (for new Nexus accounts only) and a Grant Role notification.
2. To manage licence permissions across multiple users more effectively, group them into a Team. Go to Teams page and click New team there (optional).
Enter a name for the Team and click Create.
Click Add Users to invite members to the Team.
Use the checkboxes to select users from the list and then click Add users.
An email notification from nexus@micromine.com will be sent to users, informing them that they have been added to the Team.
3. Grant the team 'Use' permission for the specific licence.
Go to the Licences page and click on the floating licence you want to manage.
Click View access button in the top-right corner
Use the filter to display Teams only. Then, assign the Use permission to the team for this licence. If necessary, you can grant Manage permission instead or in addition. You can also do this for individual users.
Users will receive a separate email notification regarding their usage permissions on the licence. All users from the team can activate the cloud licence and begin using it.
4. To guarantee that a seat is always available to a specific user, reserve it for them (optional). If you enable the Use permission for an individual user, the Reserve option will become available for them on the Licence Management page. Enable this option and Save changes.
Reserved seats are not available to other users and are marked with a special status: Reserved.
