Creating Cutoff Sets for Multiple Indicator Kriging (MIK)

If you work with resource estimates, you have probably seen Multiple Indicator Kriging (MIK) and its related tools:

The first step is creating a Cutoff set that will be used in the MIK estimation. Choose your input file, which would ideally be the same composites you are going to use across various estimation types for comparisons. 

The next step is choosing how to divide the samples into categories. In this example I'm choosing Quintiles, but Quartiles and various other percentile breaks are available options. 

The outputs here will be a Cutoff Set and optional Bin Report. The Bin Report is simple and gives you the grade ranges for each bin, sample counts, mean, median, standard deviation, and variance:

The Cutoff Set looks like this. Our thresholds align with the grade ranges from the percentile breaks we chose in the Generate Cutoff tool. We can now establish semi variograms for each bin, and we expect to have shorter ranges for higher grades, longer ranges for higher grades.

When we open the MIK tool itself, we'll load the new Cutoff Set into this field:
