I've been doing some work planning trench traces for an early exploration project. Below I have some parallel trenches/sampling lines. I'd like to know how long these lines are. We know that selecting a polyline can bring up the properties. We also know the Measurement tool can help.
What if I want to get the lengths of many lines, and have those lines attributed to the polylines themselves? If you're a new Origin user, you might just open the properties for each line and type them into the table file directly. That's not bad if you have a few lines, but what if you have 100s of lines that need to be measured?
Look no further than the Desurvey String tool! You'll find it on the Design ribbon:
You can set it up with your input file and have several options of information that can be output to your .STR file.
I want the total line length, so I will type "Line Length" in the field next to Cumulative Length. This creates a new header in the input file where the length will be stored. I've also opted for a Segment aziumuth value to be stored under "Line Azimuth":
After I run the tool, we can examine our input file and see the line lengths and azimuth stored for each line in my file:
