The unfolding (and stretching) of folded orebodies is an important requirement for many clients who want to model folded sedimentary deposits. This article provides a workflow for unfolding your data using an Unfold Trend. An Unfold Trend is a 3D geological model with locally varying anisotropy (LVA) calculated based on the modified distance/covariance between locations in space. For further details on Unfold Trends, please refer to this webhelp article: Unfold Trend Overview
1. Create an Unfold Trend (Block Model | Variable Trend | Create Unfold Trend) using a wireframe surface representing your folded orebody
2. Unfold your blank block model and sample file using the Unfold tool (Block Model | Block Model | Unfold). The Trend Model is the Unfold Trend generated in the previous step.
3. Run your variography workflow in unfolded space using the new unfolded coordinates.
4. Run your estimation workflow in unfolded space using the new unfolded coordinates.
5. After your deposit has been estimated, you can now display the block model using the original coordinates to view the results in real (folded) space.
